The Commodores (5-4, 0-2) are looking to snap a three-game losing streak and notch their first win in the American Lacrosse Conference. Hopkins (7-2), meanwhile, is playing its first league game of the year on the heels of a four-game winning streak.
Sunday is the 14th meeting between Vanderbilt and Johns Hopkins, with the Commodores holding an 8-5 advantage in the series thanks to the Commodores' current six-game winning streak. Last season in Baltimore, the Commodores defeated the Blue Jays, 14-13. Hopkins' last win in the series came during the inaugural ALC Tournament in 2007, which the Blue Jays hosted at Homewood Field.
Nine players on Vanderbilt's roster hail from the state of Maryland, making the rivalry between the two teams that much more heated. In the past five seasons, the teams have been separated by only one goal on three occasions.
Bel Air, Md., native Ally Carey leads the Commodores in scoring with 18 goals. She currently ranks seventh on Vanderbilt's all-time goals list with 118 for her career, while ranking fourth in assists (64) and fifth in points (182).
Sunday's game opens a three-game home stand for the Commodores, who play host to Presbyterian at midweek before welcoming ALC rival Ohio State on Sunday, April 8. The Commodores will then close out ALC play with a trip to face Florida on April 14. VU's final road game will be at Notre Dame on Wednesday, April 18. The Commodores will honor their nine-member senior class prior to their regular season finale on Sunday, April 22, against Jacksonville.
