LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Vanderbilt lacrosse team travels north for a mid-week road contest at Louisville Wednesday. The opening draw is scheduled for 12 p.m. CT (1 p.m. local) at UofL Lacrosse Stadium.
"We've been making great strides in our last few games," VU Head Coach Cathy Swezey said. "We just have to keep believing in the process. We can't let ourselves get down because of our recent results. We have to be ready to face another great team Wednesday, because that's what Louisville is."
Vanderbilt is coming off a 15-12 loss at No. 8 Duke over the weekend. The Commodores made a furious comeback to tie the game after allowing an early eight-goal deficit. But the Blue Devils scored a trio of man-advantage goals down the stretch to take the three-goal victory.
Three Commodores scored hat-tricks in that game: junior Abby Wheeler and freshmen Kelly Chandler and Mallory Schonk. On the season, Vanderbilt has been led offensively by senior Carly Linthicum, who ranks second in the nation with 22 goals scored this season.
In the Vanderbilt net, senior Chelsea Pasfield is averaging more than 10 saves per game. Her 61 stops on the year are the saves in the nation.
The Cardinals also are looking to rebound from a loss, having dropped a 19-13 decision at Denver last weekend. Nikki Boltja leads Louisville with 15 goals scored this season.
Last season in Nashville, the then-No. 8 Commodores scored a 14-12 win over the Cardinals. Vanderbilt's largest lead in that game was four goals.
Following Wednesday's contest, Vanderbilt returns home the following week to play host to Notre Dame on Wednesday, March 13, at 3 p.m. CT at the VU Lacrosse Complex.
