Vanderbilt moved up to No. 11 in this week's Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association poll, which features all six squads from the American Lacrosse Conference among the Top 20 in the nation.
The Commodores opened the 2012 season in mid-February with a 7-5 victory over Duke. The fifth-ranked Blue Devils defeated then-No. 2 Maryland last week. VU's first loss of the season came at new-No. 2 North Carolina, which is receiving two first place votes in this week's poll.
All six teams from the ALC are featured in this week's poll, matching their previous record as the only league in history to have every member institution in a weekly Top 20 ranking. Defending champion Northwestern remained in the No. 1 spot ahead of 4-1 Florida at No. 4. Ohio State moved up from 18th to 10th after amassing a 5-0 record in February. Vanderbilt comes in at No. 11 this week, with ALC members Penn State and Johns Hopkins closing out the poll at Nos. 19 and 20, respectively.
The Commodores next two opponents are also in the IWLCA poll. Vanderbilt will travel to Palo Alto, Calif., this weekend for a Saturday matchup (March 3) with No. 16 Stanford. The Commodores then return home to play host to No. 17 Boston College on Wednesday, March 7, at the Vanderbilt Lacrosse Complex.
The ACC has five schools in the rankings, including four of the top six. The Big East claims four schools in the Top 20 and the Ivy League three. This is the first regular-season IWLCA poll of the 2012 season; the next poll will be released on March 5.
