NASHVILLE - The 11th-ranked Commodore women's lacrosse team plays host to its home opener Wednesday when third-ranked North Carolina visits the Vanderbilt Lacrosse Complex for a 1 p.m. CT start.
The Commodores (1-0) opened their 2011 season with a 22-3 victory at Presbyterian College last weekend. Junior Hannah Clark paced the Vanderbilt attack with three goals and two assists for a game-high five points. A total of 14 Commodores scored goals against the Blue Hose, including a hat-trick by senior Katherine Denkler.
North Carolina (1-0) is facing its second straight American Lacrosse Conference opponents after playing host to Florida over the weekend. The Tar Heels needed overtime to defeat the Gators, 10-9. Senior Corey Donohoe scored four goals, including the game-winner with seven seconds remaining in the extra period.
The Commodores will play all eight of their 2011 home games at the VU Lacrosse Complex, located behind the Currey Tennis Center off 25th Avenue. Parking is available in the 25th Avenue Garage.
Vanderbilt's official athletic web site, vucommodores.com, will offer live statistics of the game as well as a free live webcast.
Wednesday's game opens a four-game homestand for the Dores which includes matchups with Canisius (Feb. 22), league-rival Northwestern (Feb. 27) and Cincinnati (March 2). The Vanderbilt Lacrosse Complex will also play host to the 2011 ALC Tournament, May 5-7.
