Lacrosse Begins Season Ranked No. 19

Feb. 14, 2007

The Vanderbilt women's lacrosse team is ranked 19th according to the first national poll released by the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) this season.

Vanderbilt is hoping to rebound from a 6-10 season in 2006. Head Coach Cathy Swezey's squad lost only four seniors from last year's squad, and appear poised to get back on the winning track.

Junior Margie Curran returns as the team's leading scorer. In two seasons with the Commodores, Curran has already posted 100 career points. Seniors Jennifer Tapscott and Kendall Thrift combined for nearly 70 points a year ago.

Defensively, senior Molly Frew and junior Sasha Cielak lead an experienced group that will protect junior goalkeeper Brooke Shinaberry. Frew and Cielak both earned All-Conference honors a year ago.

The Commodores open the 2007 season with a home game against Albany on Monday, Feb. 19. The opening draw is scheduled for 3 p.m. CT at the Vanderbilt Lacrosse Complex, located behind the Currey Tennis Center on campus.
