BIG EAST Release
Last month, Julie Blaze was honored as Vanderbilt's only representative on the preseason All-BIG EAST team. On Tuesday, she was named the BIG EAST Women's Lacrosse Midfielder of the Week for her performance in the Commodores' season opening win over Kennesaw State on Sunday.
Blaze started her junior season by showing that she remains the most well-rounded player on Vanderbilt's roster, scoring four goals on eight shots while dishing out two assists in the 18-14 win. She filled up the stat sheet by claiming four draw controls and three ground balls along with her team-high six points, creating a major presence on both ends of the field.
Blaze scored 33 goals in 2017, making her the first sophomore to lead Vanderbilt in scoring since 1999 en route to a first-team All-BIG EAST honor. Blaze was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll in week one of the 2017 season for her five-goal performance against Kennesaw State. This is her first career BIG EAST Midfielder of the Week Award.
Vanderbilt's next game is Monday, February 19 at 4 p.m. CT on the road against Fresno State. The Commodores' home opener is Saturday, February 24 at 1 p.m. against Furman at the VU Soccer/Lacrosse Complex.
