VU opens at Jacksonville Sunday

The Vanderbilt lacrosse team opens its 2013 season on Sunday, Feb. 3, facing Jacksonville at D.B. Milne Field at 11 a.m. CT (12 noon local).

"We are very excited to be opening our season against a strong opponent like Jacksonville," VU Head Coach Cathy Swezey said. "Our team has worked so hard this year, and I am anxious for them to see their hard work pay off. It should be a good game, and a lot of our young players will gain valuable experience."

Seniors lead VU past Jacksonville, 14-9
NASHVILLE - Twelve saves by Natalie Wills, a hat-trick from Kendall Pittinger and a seven draw control, four caused turnover performance from Ally Carey highlighted No. 19 Vanderbilt's 14-9 victory over Jacksonville on Senior Day at the VU Lacrosse Complex.

The Commodores closed out their 2012 regular season against the Dolphins with a meeting in Nashville that Vanderbilt won by a 14-9 tally. Commodore attacker Carly Linthicum scored a hat-trick in the game, while defender Alyssa Dunlap came up with five ground balls.

While Sunday's game is the first of the season for Vanderbilt, Jacksonville already has one game under its belt. The Dophins fell to Syracuse, 21-8, last month.

Vanderbilt opens its home schedule next Sunday when Kennesaw State visits the VU Lacrosse Complex.
