LOUISVILLE - A first-half scoring drought doomed the 13th-ranked Vanderbilt women's lacrosse team to a 12-6 loss Wednesday at Louisville.
Commodore junior Courtney Kirk scored the game's first goal six minutes in, but Vanderbilt would not score again for the remainder of the half. Louisville notched five consecutive goals, including one with only seven seconds remaining in the period.
Vanderbilt scored three of the first four goals of the second half to get back within two goals at 6-4, but four straight UL goals ballooned the Cardinals' advantage back to six. The teams would trade goals in over the final 12 minutes.
