Editor's Note: Marina Alex arrived in Bethlehem, Pa., for the U.S. Women's Open at the Saucon Valley Golf Course late on Monday night and will be blogging throughout her stay there. Alex, a member of the 2009 All-East Region team, the 2009 All-SEC Freshman team, and an individual qualifier at the 2009 NCAA Championships, will tee it up in her first Open this Thursday at 2:31 p.m. Alex is a rising sophomore from Wayne, N.J.
U.S. Open Day 3
Wednesday was my last practice round before play begins Thursday. I teed off at 8:06 and played nine holes with Kathleen Ekey, an Alabama alumni that just turned pro, and two other professionals, Becky Morgan and Diana D'Alessio. It was a change from playing with Ochoa yesterday. It was golf I could relate to. We hit the ball about the same distance and played a similar game.
I could tell just from watching play and practice that things are much more serious and intense as we approach the first round of tournament play. The USGA has made the greens quicker and the rough is a bit thicker. I see a lot more players working with their instructors and making last minute preparations for Thursday. I just wanted to play/practice and finish early in order to rest up for the remainder of the week.
Right now, I am relaxing and conserving as much energy as I can because these next two days are going to be mentally and physically very challenging. I tee it up at 2:31 ET Thursday afternoon off of hole #1 (follow Marina's round here). I am going to go out there and give it all I got! I have nothing to lose!
