Grehan advances to U.S. Open
June 1, 2013
Former Commodore women's golfer Megan Grehan notched a birdie on her first playoff hole at the 36-hole U.S. Open qualifier at the Algonquin Golf Club in St. Louis to advance the 2013 U.S. Women's Open, which will take place June 24-30 at the Sebonack Golf Club in Southampton, N.Y.
Grehan, who graduated in 2011, shot a two-over par, 144, for the qualifier, but the former Commodore had a flair for the dramatic on her final hole in a four-way playoff. After completing the 36 holes on Thursday, she and the other three players had to begin the sudden death playoff on Friday morning. Grehan ended the drama early on the first hole, making birdie to advance to Southampton.
Grehan, who currently competes on the Ladies European Tour, also had two chip-ins and a hole-out on a bunker shot in her 36-hole round on Thursday.
Current Commodore and rising sophomore Jenny Hahn is an alternate selection after a 36-hole qualifier City of Industry, Calif., at the Industry Hills Golf Club. Hahn finished one stroke back of an automatic qualifying birth.
