The Vanderbilt women’s golf team heads to Birmingham, Ala. this Friday through Sunday for the SEC Championship at the par-72, 6,278-yard Greystone Golf and Country Club. The field will feature all 14 schools in the SEC, which includes six teams ranked in the latest top 25 rankings, and four in the top 11.
The Commodores are searching for their third SEC Championship title, with the two victories coming in 2014 and 2004. The Commodores also won medalist honors in both of those seasons, with Simin Feng winning the individual title in 2014 and May Wood in 2004. Marina Alex also captured an SEC individual championship in 2010.
This season, the Commodores will send senior Kate Sborov, junior Alexandra Farnsworth, sophomore Courtney Zeng, and freshmen Alison Armstrong and Abbey Carlson.
“I’m really excited for another chance to compete for an SEC Championship,” said Vanderbilt head coach Greg Allen. “I believe that every coach of each sport in our league believes we are competing in the best conference so I know how special this opportunity is. We have a great group of girls that have worked really hard this year. Each one has shown brilliance at different times and my hope is that they all put it together at the same time this weekend. The goal will continue to be the same as it has been all year, hitting committed, confident and courageous golf shots and to be fully engaged in what we're doing.”
Vanderbilt will tee off with Mississippi State on Friday morning at 8:40 a.m. CT.
