Marina Alex poses with the 2010 SEC Medalist trophy.
April 14, 2011
Vanderbilt junior Marina Alex is back to defend her 2010 individual championship, and her Commodore teammates want to improve on their second-place finish from a year ago at the 2011 SEC Women’s Golf Championship at the Auburn University Club in Auburn, Ala. The 54-hole tournament will take place April 15-17.
The Commodores finished second in the team standings at last year’s event in Tuscaloosa, Ala., to Alabama by four strokes. Alex claimed medalist honors after defeating Tennessee’s Erica Popson in a playoff. It was Vanderbilt’s second SEC individual championship – May Wood was the medalist at the 2004 SEC Championship.
“We are going to go into the event with a positive attitude and take it one shot at a time,” said Vanderbilt head coach Greg Allen. “We’ll head out there, give it all we’ve got, and then add the scores up at the end.”
