Vanderbilt freshman Simin Feng and senior Charlie Ewing swept the SEC Golfer of the Week awards this week, winning the Women's Golfer and Men's Golfer of the Week, respectively, in an announcement made by the SEC office in Birmingham on Wednesday.
Feng won medalist honors for the first time in her career at the Central District Invitational at the Lake-Ranch Cypress Course in Lakewood Ranch, Fla., and paced the Commodores to their first team title since 2007. Feng fired a nine-under par, 207 (67-69-71), to claim the individual tournament title, and now has two top five finishes this season and is averaging 71.42 strokes per round. The award is the first of Feng's career.
Ewing finished in a tie for fourth at the SMU Querencia Cabo Collegiate, a field that included eight teams ranked in the top 32 and eight individuals in the top 50. Ewing carded a one-over par, 214 (70-71-73), for the tournament, his first top five finish of the season and his third finish in the top 10. The award is the first of Ewing's career.
The Commodore women's team plays in Hilton Head this weekend at the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate, while the men's team returns to action March 16-17 at the Talis Park Challenge in Naples, Fla.
