FRANKLIN, Tenn. - The UCLA Bruins captured the 2007 Mason Rudolph Women's Championship in record breaking fashion, firing a three-round total of 13-under par, 851, ten strokes better than the previous record of 861 set by Ohio State in 2001.  On the individual side, Duke's Amanda Blumenherst beat her own individual record for the Mason Rudolph Championship in route to her second individual title with a final score of 203, five strokes lower than her 208 total in 2005.  Host Vanderbilt finished the tournament in 13th place with a score of 901 (301-301-299), after firing a final round 299.

"We knew this tournament coming in was setting itself up as one of the strongest in women's collegiate golf, and I think it proved itself by the scores this weekend," said Vanderbilt head coach Greg Allen.  "It's going to be a great year for women's college golf."

With the win, UCLA captures its first Mason Rudolph Championship; the Bruins finished runner-up in the 2004 tournament.  The Bruins finished 14 strokes better than second-place Arizona State, and was the only team to finish under par for the weekend.

Blumenherst, the 2006 and 2007 NCAA Player of the Year, continued her excellent play and became the first player to win Mason Rudolph medalist honors on two occasions with her 13-under par, 203 finish.  Blumenherst finished four strokes better than second-place Amanda Nordqvist of Arizona State, who also broke the old individual record by one stroke with a 207.

Vanderbilt was led by Liebelei Lawrence and Jacqui Concolino, who each finished in a tie for 42nd with an eight-over par, 224.  Lawrence fired the Commodores' best round on Sunday, shooting a one-over 73 to close out the tournament (72-79-73).  Concolino ended her tournament with a 74 (77-73-74).  Other Commodore scores were Megan Grehan, who ended the tournament with a 229 (77-77-75, T-61), Brooke Goodwin, who shot a 230 (75-77-78, T-66)), and Amber Lundskog, who carded a 231 (80-74-77, T-70).  Julie Bartholomew played as an individual and shot a 252 (85-86-79, 89).

"I told our team that we're going to restart our season tomorrow," said Allen.  "We've had a lot going on as far as them getting to know Nicki and I and vice versa.  We've got a lot of talent, and I'm excited about what this team can do."

Vanderbilt continues it fall season when the Commodores head to the NCAA Fall Preview September 24-26 in Albuquerque, N.M.
