The Commodore women's golf team ended the Bryan National Collegiate in fourth place out of 16 teams with a final team score of 886 (286-300-300) for the three-day event. Sophomore Kendall Martindale was Vanderbilt's top finisher, ending the tournament in a tie for seventh with a three-over par, 219.
Vanderbilt finished one stroke back of third-place Wake Forest, with Virginia going wire-to-wire to win the tournament with a total of 869 (281-293-295). The Commodores finished in front of five teams ranked in the top 25 with their fourth-place standing.
Final totals for the Commodores included Rene Sobolewski's 221 (69-75-77), which tied her for 17th, Jenny Hahn's 223 (73-76-74), which was good for a tie for 28th, Lauren Stratton's 223 (72-74-77), which also tied her for 28th, and Irina Gabasa's 233 (74-81-78), which tied her for 68th.
"Stratty, Kendall and Irina got us off to a good start and Rene fought really hard to get it under par through 12," said Vanderbilt head coach Greg Allen. "But then the wheels fell off for her, Stratty and Irina. Kendall was very solid and Jenny played well on the back. We've got some time now to catch our breath after a very busy march and get ready for SEC's."
Georgia's Emile Burger shot a final-round 69 to win medalist honors with a 211 (72-70-69), one stroke better than Virginia's Brittany Altomare.
The Commodores' regular season concludes with the tournament, with Vanderbilt returning to the course for the SEC Championship April 19-21 in Birmingham, Ala.
