'Dores fourth in pre-season poll

Oct. 5, 2017

Vanderbilt was fourth in the 2017-18 pre-season bowling poll as voted upon by head coaches for the National Tenpin Coaches Association (NTCA) poll.

The Commodores, semi-finalists last April at the NCAA championship, trailed national champion McKendree, Nebraska and Arkansas State in the rankings. Sam Houston, Stephen F. Austin, Maryland-Eastern Shore, Fairleigh Dickinson, Sacred Heart and Central Missouri round out the pre-season Top 10. McKendree received 35 of the 36 first-place votes cast.

Vanderbilt returns four starters from last year’s squad including first-team All-American and national Rookie of the Year Maria Bulanova and junior Kristin Quah, a two-time All-America honoree. Other returning veterans with significant time in the lineup include senior Katie Stark, junior Jordan Newham and sophomores Emily Rigney and Adel Wahner. The Commodores lone graduation loss was Giselle Poss, another VU All-American and a four-year fixture in the lineup.

Vandy opens its season Oct. 27 at McKendree’s Brunswick Bearcat Open.
