BUFFALO, N.Y. - Six Vanderbilt bowlers will be among the 2,270 competitors at the annual Junior Gold Championship when the week-long event begins Monday. It is the biggest field in the history of the tournament.
The Commodores are Kendyll Dellinger, Olivia Wirtz, Amanda Fry, Giselle Poss, Nicole Powell and incoming freshman Katie Stark. They join hundreds of other young women bidding for positions on the coveted Junior Team USA squad.
The first round of qualifying is Monday and continues through Friday when champions are crowned. The massive field gets cut Wednesday and again after Thursday's play.
There will be extensive coverage on bowl.com with live streaming on BowlTV beginning Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. (CDT).
Vanderbilt has had a tradition of strong showings. Current junior Robyn Renslow won the title two years ago and former All-American Brittni Hamilton was also a champion. Josie Earnest and Natalie Goodman also made strong runs at the title in different years.
Bowlers compete in three age groups with the oldest bowlers needing to fit under 20 years of age.
