Vanderbilt will christen its sparkling new bowling center Saturday with an Alumni-Varsity match that will feature some of the program's biggest stars. The friendly competition is set for 10:00 a.m. - noon in the Recreation Center.
The Alumni roster includes Brittni Hamilton ('12), who earlier this week won the USA Team Trials in a field of the nation's best women of all ages, Jessica Tower ('06), Jennifer Redmond (`06), Kaitlyn Reynolds ('09), Tara Kane ('09), Karen Grygiel ('09), Amanda Halter (`11), Samantha Hesley ('12), Jessica Earnest ('13), Courtney Morgan ('13), Kim Carper ('13), and current assistant coach and two-time NCAA Player of the Year Josie Earnest, who graduated in 2010.
Facing an Alumni team that features six former All-Americans and five members of the 2007 NCAA championship team, the Commodore varsity will have a battle on its hands in the best of seven Baker contest.
"We have been really looking forward to this for quite some time," says Coach John Williamson. "We are so glad that these alumni thought enough of the program and their school to come back and help us open up our brand new complex. And at the same time, it offers a chance for our younger varsity members to meet the women whose hard work and dedication put Vanderbilt bowling on the map. We are going to have a lot of fun with this."
It would be hard to determine a favorite as both teams could point to tangible reasons why they will prevail.
After the competition, everyone will enjoy lunch, followed by attending the Vanderbilt-Kentucky men's basketball game in Memorial Gymnasium.
