Bowlers Competing at USA Trials

Jan. 5, 2014

LAS VEGAS---Five current members of Vanderbilt's bowling team and two Commodore alumni are competing at the United States Bowling Congress' Team USA Trials.

America's best men and women bowlers, professionals included, began Saturday and will continue through Wednesday when the field of just over 100 women will be trimmed to the top three to battle for the championship. Things have not gone well for Vanderbilt's group.

After two days, alums Brittni Hamilton and Vanderbilt assistant coach Josie Earnest pace the Black and Gold contingent with 34 and 44 "points" - bowlers are ranked after each round and their composite rankings (points) will determine the final placing.

Sophomore Amanda Fry had a good day Sunday by placing 21st in the round and has 62 points. Others competing are Robyn Renslow , Natalie Goodman Giselle Poss and Kendall Dellinger.

Several bowlers including Hamilton and Dellinger had difficult plane trips to even reach the tournament, getting stranded overnight at Chicago's Midway Airport in a snowstorm and missing Friday's practice session.
