Bowlers stay strong at USA Trials

Jan. 5, 2011

HENDERSON, Nev. -- Vanderbilt bowlers generally had another good day at the USBC's Team Trials Wednesday. While Brittni Hamilton slipped from second to fourth place, alumnus Josie Earnest made one of the biggest moves of the day in roaring from 23rd place into seventh.

Diandra Asbaty maintained her first place position after 18 games, totaling 2,929 pins for a 218.28 average. Hamilton is on her heels at 216.83 with 18 more games to go over the next two days.

Josie Earnest's huge day included one 289 effort and a couple others that were one break from being in the 270 range. She is now averaging 210.89 in this national competition to establish the USA's women's team.

Jessica Earnest couldn't quite keep her fast opening day pace but still sits in 17th place with a good 203 average and Kim Carper rounds out the Commodore connections in 61st place (178.89).

Complete coverage is found on bowl.com with the tourney running through Friday.
