LINCOLN, Neb. -- Vanderbilt struggled through another day of inconsistency and finished third at the Big Red Invite Saturday. The Commodores came in behind Central Missouri and Arkansas State, trailing the champions by just 125 pins despite their problems.

"We competed and finished the day on an uptick but overall we were very inconsistent in our execution," said Coach John Williamson. "Things we normally do well we were mediocre. Our newcomers bowled like newcomers for the most part."

It was a day when the No. 2 rated `Dores could never seem to get what they needed when they needed it. In what was a tight game with the host Huskers, for instance, All-American Josie Earnest suffered four consecutive splits and subsequent open frames.

Brittni Hamilton made the all-tournament team with a fourth place individual finish and a 196.8 average over 10 games. Kayla Rhoades, leading at the halfway point, was sixth and Josie Earnest still averaged 190 and was eighth. Central Missouri's Amanda Falk won with a 205.4 average. (best average for a minimum of seven games determined the individual standings)

Williamson pointed out the play of senior Ashley Belden and transfer Rhoades as bright spots for his team, which sees its next action at the Maryland-Eastern Shore Hawk Classic in two weeks. The Commodores have won that event three straight years.
