Powell leads Vandy at Junior Gold

BUFFALO, NY---Sophomore Nicole Powell leads a contingent of Vanderbilt bowlers at the USBC Junior Gold Championship after the first of five days of competition.

Powell, a lefty from Orland Park, Ill., averaged 207.6 over five years to sit in 13th position in the field of 300. Ashlyn Herzberg of Wichita leads the event after posting a 218.40 average.

Red-shirt freshman Olivia Wirtz of Battle Creek was in 25th place (203) and junior Amanda Fry was in 56th (195). Other Vanderbilt bowlers are Giselle Poss in 110th, Katie Stark (114th) and Kendyll Dellinger (127th).

There are five more games Tuesday and Wednesday before the field is cut. The individual champion will be crowned Friday in addition to the new members of Junior Team USA that are awarded roster spots based upon top two finishes.
