Earnest, Hamilton Crack Trials Top 10

Jan. 5, 2013

HENDERSON, NV---Vanderbilt's trio of bowlers hoping to earn Team USA honors remained in contention after Saturday's third round at the Team USA Trials.

In this marathon tournament where consistency earns handsome dividends, Josie Earnest improved her place and now is seventh in the field of 85 hopefuls. Earnest, Vanderbilt's assistant coach, had the day's 13th best pin total and has knocked down 3,783 pins over three days. Everyone trails Danielle McEwan, who was second on the day after being first Friday and has a total of 3,942.

Brittni Hamilton, a three-time, first-team All-American at Vanderbilt, also slid up in the overall standings and is 10th with 3,668. Freshman Amanda Fry, trying to get a spot of Junior Team USA, didn't help herself Saturday and slid into 24th place after having the 64th total on the day.

There are more rounds Sunday and Monday, upon which team members are decided. Bowl.com has an excellent set of statistics on the entire tournament for both women and men.
