The Vanderbilt women's basketball team continues its season-opening "homestand" on Thursday night when the Commodores host Delaware State at Memorial Gym at 7 p.m.
It is the third straight home game for the Commodores, who will also host Marquette on Sunday before facing their first road test of the season on Nov. 21 at Duke. Vanderbilt will carry a 2-0 record and a No. 25 ranking (USA Today poll) into Thursday's contest. Delaware State is 0-1 on the season after falling to Old Dominion, 97-67, last week.
This is only the second-ever meeting between the Commodores and the Hornets, with the previous match-up coming in the opening round of the 2007 NCAA tournament. Vanderbilt won that game, 62-47.
Vanderbilt has roared out to its 2-0 start this season by blasting past Appalachian State, 96-53, and Western Kentucky, 85-60.
Freshman Rebekah Dahlman has paced the Commodores offensively, averaging 20.5 points per game. She scored 23 games in the season-opening win over Appalachian State to the program's record for most points in a freshman debut, and followed that up with 18 points against Western Kentucky.
Senior Christina Foggie has averaged 18.5 points in the first games. She scored 21 of her team-high 26 points in the first half of Monday's win over Western Kentucky.
For Delaware State, Tierra Hawkins led the way in the season opener, scoring 18 points and grabbing eight rebounds. The senior is on the doorstep of a career milestone, needing just 14 more points to reach the 1,000-point plateau.
