Scouting The Commodores
As could be expected, the trio of Tiffany Clarke, Christina Foggie and Jasmine Lister led No. 16/17 Vanderbilt in its season opener against McNeese State. Clarke scored a game-high 24 points on 9-12 from the field and 6-7 from the line. The senior forward added eight rebounds and a pair of blocks. Foggie, the SEC's leading scorer last season, contributed 18 points, going 7-12 from the field (including 3-7 from three). Lister just missed a double-double, scoring nine points and dishing out 10 assists, while also grabbing five rebounds. Other big contributors for Head Coach Melanie Balcomb's squad in the opener included senior Elan Brown (nine points, five rebounds, four steals) and freshman Kendall Shaw (six points, seven rebounds, four blocks).
Scouting The Lady Bisons
Lipcomb dropped its first game under first year Head Coach Greg Brown on Friday, November 9. The Lady Bisons fell at Gardner-Webb, 64-40. Hannah Phillips led the effort, scoring 15 points, grabbing seven rebounds and handing out four assists, all team highs. Kelli Smith contributed seven points and four rebounds. The Lady Bisons were 6-23 last season, 4-14 in Atlantic Sun action.
The series - Vanderbilt vs. Lipscomb
Two schools separated by less than four miles will meet for the 15th time when the Commodores travel to Lipscomb. Vanderbilt has won all 14 previous meetings, including five held on Lipscomb's campus. There is one meeting that did not happen in Nashville, as Vanderbilt took a 60-44 win over the Lady Bisons in the second round of the 2004 NCAA Tournament in Chattanooga, Tenn. The teams met last season in the Vanderbilt Thanksgiving tournament, with the Commodores taking an 81-39 decision. Stephanie Holzer, Tiffany Clarke, Christina Foggie and Kady Schrann all scored in double figures.
On Deck - UAB
The Commodores return to Memorial Gym on Thursday, November 15, when they play host to UAB. The Blazers are 1-0 with a win over Austin Peay. They take on Alabama A&M on Monday night. Tipoff is set for 7:00 p.m.
