Scouting The Commodores
The No. 16/17 Vanderbilt team is locked-and-loaded for 2012-13 as they begin the 2012-13 season. The roster has 10 of 11 players returning from last year's team which won 23 games and reached the second round of the NCAA Tournament, highlighted by Christina Foggie. The junior guard led the SEC in scoring last year (17.7 ppg) and earned First Team All-SEC honors, as well as WBCA All-Region honors. Her backcourt partner and classmate Jasmine Lister led the SEC in assists (5.5 apg) and earned All-SEC honors, as did senior Tiffany Clarke (7.2 rpg) and redshirt junior center Stephanie Holzer (7.5 rpg). Sophomore Kady Schrann also returns after earning a spot on the SEC All-Freshman team a year ago. The guard started 27 games. The Commodores are coming off an 81-53 exhibition win over Alabama-Huntsville, but lost Holzer for the season to a knee injury during the contest.

Scouting The Cowgirls
McNeese State enters the 2012 season returning their top-two scorers from a team which reached the NCAA Tournament and won the Southland Conference last year. Twins Ashlyn and Caitlyn Baggett averaged 15.4 and 14.4 points per game last season, respectively. The duo also combined for 6.7 assists per contest. Head Coach Brooks Donald Williams' team won an exhibition contest against Wiley, 76-61, on October 29. Ashlyn Baggett led the way with 21 points, while her sister, Caitlyn, added 18.

The Series - Vanderbilt vs. McNeese State
Vanderbilt and McNeese State will be meeting for the first time on the hardwood. However, it is not McNeese's first trip to Memorial Gym, as the Cowgirls played in the 2005 Vanderbilt Thanksgiving Tournament, but did not face the Commodores.

On Deck - Lipscomb
The Commodores will hit the road for the first time on Monday, November 12, but they won't have far to travel. Vanderbilt will visit Lipscomb for a 7:15 p.m tipoff. The game can be seen on ESPN3.com and on the WatchESPN app.

Opening the Dores
Vanderbilt will be looking to win its sixth-straight opener on Saturday against McNeese State. Last year, the Commodores defeated Alabama A&M, 86-55, led by 22 points from Jasmine Lister and 18 points from Christina Foggie. Vanderbilt is 9-1 in season openers under Melanie Balcomb, with the lone defeat coming at Arizona State at the start of the 2005-06 season. All-time, Vanderbilt is 28-6 in lid-lifters.
