    High expectations on West End

    Nov. 8, 2012

With basketball season just around the corner, VUCommodores.com takes one last look at the expectations for the Vanderbilt women's basketball team this season.

Here's a look at where the Commodores have been ranked by various outlets:
    16th - Associated Press
17th - USA Today Coaches Poll
    14th - ESPN.com
    20th - Lindy's
    12th - Athlon
    10th - SLAM Magainze

Clearly, when a team returns 97.6% of its scoring from a team that spent a better part of last season in the top 25 and reached the NCAA Tournament, people expect quite a bit.

In addition to high regard for the team, Vanderbilt players have received quite a bit of preseason recognition.

Christina Foggie will look to defend her SEC scoring title and many people expect her to be one of the best players in the country. Foggie was named to the Wade Trophy Watch list, Preseason First Team All-SEC by both the coaches and media as well as Preseason Second Team All-America by Lindy's.

Foggie wasn't the only Commodore to garner Preseason All-SEC honors, as Jasmine Lister joined her on the coaches' First Team and Tiffany Clarke was on the coaches' Second Team.

Clarke also picked-up a nomination for the Senior CLASS Award, which recognizes a combination of on- and off-the-court accomplishments. The forward is one of 30 national nominees for the prestigious honor.

All the preseason rankings and honors get put aside on Saturday, November 10, when the Commodores open the regular season against McNeese State. Tipoff is set for Noon at Memorial Gym.
