Nov. 7, 2013
This is the week that the Vanderbilt women's basketball team - and their fans - have been waiting for.
The Commodores will play two games in a four-day stretch, both at home, to get the ball rolling on the new season.
Vanderbilt opens the regular season on Friday night, hosting Appalachian State at 7 p.m. at Memorial Gym, then will host Western Kentucky on Monday night at 7 p.m.
There are numerous events, promotions and giveaways planned for the upcoming games. Here are a few things to keep an eye:
GAME BALL FOR BALCOMB
Melanie Balcomb, who became the program's all-time leader in wins last season, will be recognized before Friday's game. Balcomb will be given a game ball during a pregame ceremony. Balcomb earned her 257th victory on Feb. 28, 2013 against Auburn to become the school's all-time leader.
SOCIAL MEDIA NIGHT
Fans will have a chance to win prizes Friday during our Social Media Night promotion. The "Tweet your Seat" contest will have fans competing for magnets, shirts, tickets, signed items, pictures, pizza and more. Other promotions will include a "Vine" of our starting lineup and a chance for fans to take their pictures in front of the #StarsPlayHere backdrop.
Season ticket holders will have a small token of appreciation taped to their seat when they arrive at the gym Friday. Also, all fans are encouraged to pick up their frequent fan punch card. The more games you attend, the more you can win!
Friday's contest will feature the debuts of Vanderbilt's touted freshman class - Rebekah Dahlman, Marqu'es Webb and Kylee Smith. The threesome combined to score 45 points while going 15-of-26 from the floor during Vanderbilt's exhibition-game victory over North Alabama last Saturday. Dahlman led all scorers with 21 points, Webb added 14 and Smith had 10.
Friday's game also marks the final season opener for Vanderbilt seniors Christina Foggie and Jasmine Lister, who have been central figures for the program throughout their careers.
