The wait is almost over.
Vanderbilt fans will get their first look at the women's basketball on Saturday when the Commodores play their first (and only) preseason exhibition game, hosting North Alabama at 2 p.m. at Memorial Gym.
As normal, excitement and optimism are high for the Commodores, who are expected to be anchored by seniors Jasmine Lister and Christina Foggie.
Together, they form one of the most dynamic backcourt combinations in the nation. They each averaged double figures in scoring last season, with Foggie averaging 13.4 per game and Lister scoring 12.2 points per contest.
Both players also reached the 1,000-point career mark last season while helping the Commodores post a 21-12 record and reach the NCAA tournament for the 14th straight season.
Lister was named to the preseason All-SEC team by the conference's coaches.
Head coach Melanie Balcomb will also have plenty of young talent this season, including three touted freshman - Rebekah Dahlman, Kylee Smith and Marqu'es Webb.
The young Vanderbilt roster also includes six sophomores, many of whom saw significant playing time last season. Sophomore Heather Bowe is among the headliners in the cast after earning a spot on the SEC's All-Freshman team last year.
In Saturday's game, Vanderbilt will be facing a North Alabama team that posted a 20-11 mark last season, including going 12-6 in the Gulf South Conference.
The Lions, led by first-year coach Missy Tiber, return nine of 13 letterwinners from last season, including three starters. The Lions finished second in the GSC last season.
NOTE: Saturday's game will not be broadcast on the radio or vucommodores.com, but all regular-season games can be heard on 560 AM and 95.9 FM with Charlie Mattos on the call. Additionally, all games can be heard on vucommodores.com.
