NASHVILLE -- Vanderbilt women's basketball head coach Melanie Balcomb announced today that redshirt freshman forward Kristen Gaffney has undergone successful surgery to repair damage to her right knee.

Gaffney redshirted her first year on West End after suffering a similar injury to her left knee during her senior season of high school and has yet to play a game for the Commodores.

The Cary, N.C., native was a Parade All-American at Green Hope High School, where she scored 2,671 career points, seventh in state history. She helped Green Hope to a 105-6 record over her final three prep seasons and owns the state sophomore scoring record.

A timetable for Gaffney's return to action will be determined at a later stage in her rehab.
