NASHVILLE– Vanderbilt seniors Rachel Bell and Christa Reed will travel to Columbus, Ohio this week to participate in the ProHoops Combine in conjunction with the women’s basketball Final Four on March 31.
Bell and Reed, who just wrapped up four seasons as members of the Vanderbilt women’s basketball team, are both looking at the combine as a first step in a future professional career.
“Going to the combine is going to be a bit of a different experience because we have all been on a team for the last four years and now we are competing with everyone in the room,” said Reed. “Nevertheless, it’s great that these exist for players who want to play at the next level. I am a little nervous but excited. I believe in myself and I believe that Rachel will do well too.”
Bell is equally as excited about the opportunity.
“I’m grateful to be invited to a combine and I’m excited to be able to show coaches and agents what I can do,” said Bell. “It’s an opportunity that I am very grateful to be a part of and whatever may come next, I can’t wait for.”
The combine is an invitation-only event that provides top college seniors an opportunity to be evaluated by WNBA coaches and general managers, foreign coaches and agents before the WNBA draft is held in April.
Bell and Reed both had successful careers at Vanderbilt. This season, both eclipsed the 1,000-point mark. Bell is the No. 26 scorer all-time with 1,154 career points, while Reed ranks No. 31 with 1,058 career points.
Both are hoping to showcase their skills to possibly jumpstart a professional career, if not in the WNBA, but oversees.
“We are excited that Christa and Rachel will be competing at the ProHoops combine”, said head coach Stephanie White. “They have earned this opportunity to showcase their talent and begin the next step in their playing careers”
Last season, Vanderbilt standout Marqu’es Webb attended the ProHoops Combine at the Final Four and has spent the second half of the season playing overseas for Spolek Basketbalovy Klub Lokomotiva Karlovy Vary, in the top league of the Czech Republic.
