Clarke named All-Region
March 19, 2013
Tiffany Clarke continues to accumulate postseason awards as her team prepares for the NCAA Tournament. The senior forward has been named All-Region by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association, making her a nominee for All-America honors.
Clarke led Vanderbilt in scoring (16.7 per game) and rebounding (8.5 per game) on the year, helping the Commodores to a 20-11 record and a berth in the NCAA Tournament. Clarke ranked fourth in the Southeastern Conference in scoring and third in rebounding, as well as third in field goal percentage (52.4%) and sixth in blocks (1.5 per game).
The Duluth, Ga., native earned First Team All-SEC honors and has collected some type of All-SEC honor during each of her four seasons at Vanderbilt.
She was named the ESPNW National Player of the Week on February 25 after leading Vanderbilt to wins at Florida and over No. 10 Texas A&M. Clarke scored 26, while adding seven rebounds and four blocks in a 68-57 win over the Gators. She followed that up by scoring a career-high 30 points in the upset of the Aggies. The victories helped solidify Vanderbilt as an NCAA Tournament team.
Eight Vanderbilt players have previously won All-Region honors from the WBCA. Christina Foggie was the most recent, earning that recognition last season. Clarke marks the sixth time a Melanie Balcomb player has been on the All-Region team at Vanderbilt.
On five occasions, Commodores have gone on to receive All-America honors. Chantelle Anderson was the most recent in 2002 and '03. Sheri Sam (1996), Heidi Gillingham (1993) and Wendy Scholtens (1990) are Vanderbilt's other All-America selections.
Clarke was joined on the Region 3 Team by six other players from the Southeastern Conference. Theresa Plaisance (LSU), Kelsey Bone (Texas A&M), Jasmine Hassell (Georgia), A'dia Mathies (Kentucky), Bashaara Graves (Tennessee) and Meighan Simmons (Tennessee) join Clarke as nominees for All-America honors.
The 2013 WBCA Division I Coaches' All-America Team will be announced at 1:10 p.m. CT Saturday April 6, during NCAA® Women's Final Four® Super Saturday festivities in New Orleans Arena.
