Vanderbilt Tabbed No. 5 Seed in Kansas City Regional
NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- The Vanderbilt women's basketball team will travel to the Bank of America Arena in Seattle, Wash., to take on Montana in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Saturday, March 19. The Commodore earned the fifth seed in the Kansas City Regional.
Vanderbilt will play the final game of the day at the Bank of America Arena in Seattle. The Commodores game will follow 30 minutes after the game between No. 4 seed Kansas State and No. 13 seed Bowling Green, which is slated to begin at 7 p.m.(CT)/5 p.m. (PT).
The two teams are part of the Kansas City Regional. The winner of the VU-UM game will face either No. 4 seed Kansas State (23-7) or No. 13 seed Bowling Green (23-7) on Monday.
Montana is making its 16th NCAA tournament appearance and second straight. The Lady Griz are 6-15 all-time in tournament games and lost in the first round last year as a No. 12 seed to No. 5 seed Louisiana Tech, 81-77, at Missoula.
Vanderbilt is making its 18th NCAA tournament appearance and sixth straight. The Commodores are 28-17 all-time in the tournament. VU, which made it to the Final Four in 1993, had tournament wins over Lipscomb, 76-45, and Chattanooga, 60-44, last year before falling to Stanford, 57-55, in the regional semifinal round.
Vanderbilt and Montana have faced each other one other time, a 69-65 Commodore victory in Missoula on Nov. 17, 1994, as part of the WNIT preseason tournament.
