Odds and Ends, March 1

After concluding play on Saturday at the SEC Tournament, Vanderbilt will have a week off before it learns its postseason fate on Monday, March 14 when the NCAA Tournament bracket is announced (6 p.m., ESPN).

Vanderbilt will be looking for its 24th NCAA Tournament appearance and 12th in a row. The Commodores are one of only nine NCAA teams (UConn, Duke, Georgia, LSU, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Stanford and Tennessee) that have advanced to the tournament 11 straight years.

In those 11 straight appearances, Vanderbilt has won at least one game each year, making it one of only five teams to accomplish that feat (UConn, Duke, LSU, Stanford).

Clarke makes SEC All-Tournament Team
Sophomore forward Tiffany Clarke was the only player from a team besides Kentucky or Tennessee to make the SEC All-Tournament Team. Clarke was very deserving of the honor after averaging 20.5 points and 13.0 rebounds in two games.

Clarke matched a season high with 23 points – all in the second half – in a quarterfinal win against Mississippi State. She then corralled a career-best 17 rebounds and set a career high with four blocks in the semifinals against Kentucky.

The 17 rebounds are tied for the 16th most in school history and she is the first Commodore to grab 17 boards since Carla Thomas also had 17 in 2005.

SEC Tournament Nuggets
• Vanderbilt has advanced to the semifinals of the SEC Tournament five straight years.
• Vanderbilt is 8-10 all-time in the semifinals.
• Vanderbilt has won at least one SEC Tournament game every year under Coach Balcomb.
• Vanderbilt is 9-2 all-time in SEC Tournament games in Nashville.
• Since Vanderbilt’s title in 2004, the SEC Tournament crown hasn’t left the state with Vanderbilt winning three times and Tennessee five times.
• Coach Balcomb is 18-6 (75%) all-time in the SEC Tournament.
• Vanderbilt is 8-1 all-time in the SEC quarterfinals under Coach Balcomb.

20 Wins Again
Vanderbilt’s win over Mississippi State in the SEC quarterfinals gave the Commodores 20 wins on the season. It was the 12th straight season Vanderbilt has reached at least 20 wins and 25th time in school history. Vanderbilt has had at least 20 wins 19 of the last 20 seasons.

ESPN: 10th Seed in Cincinnati, Ohio (Dayton Regional)

ESPN has five SEC teams making the field of 64. College RPI has just four teams making the field with LSU being the odd team out.

Three 2010-11 Foes Lock Up NCAA Berths
