The No. 24 Vanderbilt women's basketball team (21-8, 9-7 SEC) has earned the seventh seed for the 2012 SEC Women's Basketball Tournament, to be held March 1-4 at Nashville's Bridgestone Arena. The Commodores will face tenth-seeded Mississippi State in the first round on Thursday, March 1, at 2:30 p.m.
The winner of the Vanderbilt-Mississippi State contest will move on to face second-seeded Tennessee on Friday, March 2, also at 2:30 p.m. The first two rounds of the tournament can be seen on FSN, while the semifinals will be on ESPNU and the championship will air on ESPN2.
Vanderbilt enters the tournament coming off a 67-54 win over Alabama in its regular season finale on Sunday, February 26. The Commodores 21 wins gave them their 13th-straight 20-win session and they begin the SEC Tournament looking to secure their 13th-straight NCAA Tournament bid.
The Commodores have won six SEC Tournament titles, including three under Melanie Balcomb. The most recent came in 2009. Last season, Vanderbilt received a first-round bye after finishing third in the regular season. The Commodores defeated Mississippi State in the second round before falling to Kentucky in the semifinals.
Forward Tiffany Clarke earned All-Tournament honors after posting 23 points and nine rebounds against the Bulldogs and 18 points and 17 rebounds against the Wildcats.
All-time, Vanderbilt is 43-26 in the SEC Tournament.
