WBB: VU Hosts LSU For Senior Day Thursday
Tickets Still Availabe, Call 322-GOLD
Feb. 21, 2007
NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Seniors Dee Davis, Carla Thomas and Caroline Williams will play their final game at Memorial Gymnasium on Thursday, Feb. 22, when seventh-ranked LSU visits 12th-ranked Vanderbilt for an 8 p.m. CT tip-off. The game will be televised by FSN South.
A post-game ceremony is planned to honor the decorated group of seniors. Since the trio arrived in Nashville four years ago, the Commodores have 76.4 percent of their games (94-29). Vanderbilt has made the NCAA Tournament field every year, advancing to the Sweet 16 in 2004 and 2005.
Williams, the reigning Southeastern Conference Player of the Week, sits only 49 points from joining Davis and Thomas in the 1,000-point club. Williams posted back-to-back career-highs against Mississippi State and South Carolina, scoring 50 points in two games last week to stretch Vanderbilt's current winning streak to six.
A native of Rockmart, Ga., Williams moved into first place nationally in three-point field-goal percentage by hitting 6-of-8 three's against South Carolina.
The Commodores remain the top three-point shooting team in the nation, a distinction they have held since defeating Georgia Tech at the Gwinnett Center in Duluth, Ga. -- site of the 2007 SEC Tournament.
Vanderbilt and LSU are currently tied for third in the Southeastern Conference standings at 9-3. With two games to play in the regular season, both team are still jockeying for a Thursday bye at next week's tournament. The Commodores captured the 2004 SEC Tournament, when this year's seniors were freshmen.
The Commodores close out the regular season at No. 2 Tennessee, while LSU returns home to Baton Rouge to play host to Alabama.
Tickets for Thursday's game are available by calling (615) 322-GOLD (option 1), or by visiting the McGugin Center Ticket Office during normal business hours.
