No. 14/12 Commodores Host Lady Gators On VU's Annual Fan Day
Jan. 12, 2007
NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- The No. 14/12 Vanderbilt women's basketball team returns to the friendly confines of Memorial Gymnasium Sunday, playing host to Southeastern Conference rival Florida for a 2 p.m. CT tip-off. The game will be broadcast regionally by CSS.
Sunday marks Vanderbilt's annual "Jam the Gym" celebration, which features $1 tickets and a bevy of fun family activities and promotions designed to fill Memorial Gym with excited Commodore fans.
Vanderbilt will feed off a strong home court advantage against one of its biggest SEC rivals, the Florida Lady Gators. Last season in Gainesville, Florida upset the then-No. 19 Commodores by a tally of 73-59.
The Commodores (15-2, 2-1 SEC) return home from a two-game SEC road swing. After suffering only their second loss of the season at the hands of Ole Miss, the Commodores earned a one-point victory at South Carolina this past Thursday.
With a game-high 26 points on Thursday, senior Carla Thomas moved into Vanderbilt's all-time Top 10 for career scoring with 1,527 points. She stands merely 10 points behind former Commodore and WNBA standout Sheri Sam for ninth place on the list.
Senior Dee Davis gave out six assists at South Carolina, moving her into the SEC's Top 10 for career assists. Davis stands just 15 assists behind Ashley McElhiney for the school record in assists, which would also put her in the league's top seven all-time.
Florida (6-11, 0-2 SEC) has opened the 2007 SEC season with three-straight ranked opponents. The Lady Gators lost at No. 15 Georgia before falling at home to No. 4 Tennessee on Thursday.
