RIVERSIDE, Calif. (AP) -- Kemie Nkele had 17 points and eight rebounds and UC Riverside held No. 16 Vanderbilt scoreless for the final 2:31 to earn a 50-47 upset on Saturday.
Neither team shot well as Riverside (3-4), which was playing its home opener, made 35 percent while Vanderbilt was good on just 33 percent.
The Commodores took their last lead at 47-46 with 2:31 left in the game as Wirth made a basket and a free throw. Nkele scored on a put-back with 48.9 seconds remaining to put the Highlanders up 48-47. Tainoisouti Lott made two free throws to give Riverside a three-point lead.
Vanderbilt's Jennifer Risper missed a shot at the buzzer that would have sent the game into overtime.
