Head Coach Melanie Balcomb
On what they need to work on:
"We gave up threes to start the game and continued to give up threes until the game was over. The threes and the rebounding, that's something we're really going to have to work on. We have to be able to make adjustments during the game, having [our girls] know who their shooters are and knowing what they're running. I didn't feel like we made those adjustments tonight. We got our defense to where it should have been."
On the second half:
"Our starting lineup is not our best lineup, so I wanted to start differently. I thought I would mix it up because I didn't like what we were doing."
"She is just awesome. Every day she is focused and puts in effort. The way she prepares is like a senior, and that is why we see consistency from her.
"When we weren't playing well, Jas just kept playing harder and smarter. She's just so coachable right now, and I love coaching her."
On the inside game:
"Tonight Morgan did a really good job feeding the post, and so did Christina and Jasmine. There was good chemistry on offense."
On how Vanderbilt was able to pull away and how she was able to get to the foul line as much as she did:
"I think it was just setting up cuts and making them foul me and just not letting them take me out of my path to the basket. Getting my body into them helped with going to the basket and getting fouled."
On Balcomb getting on the team at halftime and improvements that were made in the second half:
"We just came out flat at the start of the game, and we weren't taking away their strengths. We were letting ETSU get away with whatever they wanted, and they were getting their shots. We were letting them make 3's, and we weren't executing on offense. We weren't doing what Vanderbilt basketball does, and she really emphasized that in the locker room at halftime. In the second half, we got our hands up a lot more on defense, and we were also feeding the posts a lot more. We ran a lot better too."
On heading into an 11-day break coming off of this win
"I think it was somewhat of a confidence builder even if it didn't necessarily build our confidence. I think it was necessary to go into this break with a win and obviously to know what we need to work on over the break too. We'll take the good and the bad with this win."
