VANDERBILT (23-11) The Commodores lead the all-time series with Xavier 2-1. Vanderbilt scored the first points of the game and held the lead by as many as 8 points for the next 17 minutes until the game was tied at 25 points with 3:08 left to play Vanderbilt was successful at the free throw line making 5 of 6 attempts in the first half. Jence Roads lead the team in scoring in the first half with 8 points and in the second half with 12 points. Vanderbilt turned the ball over 9 times in the first half allowing Xavier to covert those turnover into 10 points. Vanderbilt gave up its largest lead of 10 points with 9:17 to go Vanderbilt's only bench points in the first half came from Rebecca Silinski at 3:58. After scoring 8 points in the first half, Jence Rhoads scored her 12th point of the game with a 3 point field goal with 4:25 left to play. Vanderbilt lead most of the second half until Xavier cut the lead down to 1 point with 1:20 to go. Vanderbilt took the last shot of the game with a chance to win but was an in and out shot attempted by Jence Rhoads. Vanderbilt shot for an impressive 90% from the free throw line making 9 of 10 shots Vanderbilt had 16 turnovers in the game Hannah Tuomi finished the game with a double-double (10 pts and 11 Reb) The lead changed in the game 9 total times Vanderbilt had only 11 bench points compared to Xavier's 21 points Vanderbilt finished the game with13 fast break points compared to Xavier's 4. Vanderbilt held the lead for most of the second half until turning the ball over 1 of 15 times in the game giving Xavier the lead by 1 point (61-60) with 43.5 to go. This was Tuomi's third double-double of the season. Three Commodore players found double figures including: Marsh (11), Tuomi (10), Rhoads (20). XAVIER (29-3) Xavier is 5-8 all-time in NCAA play and is making its ninth tournament appearance. Scoring at 11:46 Xavier went scoreless for the next 3 minutes in the first half without a field goal. April Phillips was charged with a technical foul at 9:02 where Vanderbilt converted their two free throws. Katie Rutan was the first non starter to score for Xavier in the first half at 5:50 Xavier used a strong inside attack to score 50 of its 94 points in the paint. Xavier leads the battle on the board with 24 rebounds to Vanderbilt's 19. Xavier was able to score 14 points off 2nd chance points in the paint. Vanderbilt lead the entire 1st half until Tashia Phillips scored at 25 points with 3:08 left to play. Xavier was able to score 10 points off turnovers in the first half. Xavier struggled with 3 point field goals attempts hitting only 1 out of 10 in the first half. Xavier was able to hold Vanderbilt scoreless from 4:43 to 22.6 second remaining in the 1st half were the game then entered the half at a 27 point tie. Ta'Shia Phillips lead Xavier in scoring in the first half with 9 points and 10 rebounds. Katie Rutan struggled with 3 point field goals in the game until making two in a row with 3:50 to play in the 2nd half. She finished the game with 3 threes. Xavier was down by as many as 10 points with 9:17 left to play. Amber Harris lead Xavier to a 1 point lead which was their first lead of the 2nd half with 43.5 left to go. Amber Harris scored with 12.3 seconds remaining in the game which proved to be enough to carry Xavier to a 1 point lead over Vanderbilt. Ta'Shia Phillips finished the game with her 22nd double-double of the season and 54th of her career (15pts and 17 Reb). Phillips finished only 1 rebound short of her previous mark (3/21/09) Xavier's 41 rebounds breaks Sunday's post season record of 21 for most rebounds in a game. Xavier turned 16 turnovers into 18 points XU finished with 9 steals Xavier used a strong inside attacked to score 44 of its 63 points in the paint. This is Xavier's second time in school history that they have advanced to the Sweet 16. Harris (21), Phillips (15), Jernigan (10), and Rutan (11) all hit double figures for Xavier.
