Melanie Balcomb, Vanderbilt Head Coach

On holding off Auburn in the game's final seconds:
"It was awfully tough because they fought back. They're a great team and we just had a good cushion and we didn't foul. We got almost tentative and we didn't get the transition buckets down the stretch. Everybody made big plays when we needed it. Our bench stepped up when we had foul trouble and I couldn't ask any more of their effort."

On Merideth Marsh's 3-pointer:
"Merideth has a tendency to want to do too much. I think she was rushing tonight and when she got in foul trouble, I think she really took her time and thought that she needed to let it go and move past it. I'm really proud of her mental toughness."

On chance of winning regular season title:
"I don't know. I think they're not thinking past every possession and I think that's why we're playing so well. I think they're not thinking what this game means or the magnitude. They're thinking that we're playing Auburn today. We're just trying to focus on the outcome and on the task at hand."

Vanderbilt Players

Jennifer Risper, guard

On Auburn's defense:
"They were concerned about our shooters and that left us open in the paint."

On outlook for the rest of the season:
"We set a goal to win SEC and that started tonight. We're a lot more concerned about that than anything else."

On Auburn's run in the second half:
"We didn't respond the way we wanted to. We didn't give up. We tried to get defensive stops. "

Christina Wirth, forward

On offense in the first half:
"We had some great drives. They don't have a deep lineup. Their starters play a lot and don't want to get in foul trouble, so we did a good job of recognizing that."

On Auburn's run in the second half:
"They didn't get to be #3 in the country for nothing. They're obviously really good and we need to do a better job in the future of stopping a run earlier."

On outlook for the rest of the season:
"We take it one game at a time. There are going to be tough road games. We starting to figure things out and this is when we play our best basketball. We've had plenty of learning experiences this season and we're really growing up as a team."

Amy Malo, forward

On coming out of halftime:
"Coach said we couldn't be content, so that was a determination that we had. We didn't do a good job in the second half, but we were able to hold on."

Nell Fortner, Auburn Head Coach

Opening Statement:
"If we could play that first half over again, we just didn't compete well in the first half. The second half we really played well, but we just got taken out in the first half."

On Auburn's play in the first half:
"Vanderbilt is a very good team, very physical, great defense. They change things up continuously and they outplayed us in the first half. They played like they wanted it more than we did. It was just too much to come back from."

On Vanderbilt's ability to score in the paint:
"They tore us up in the paint. That's just bad defense. They just had layup after layup after layup. They took advantage of us."

On outlook for the rest of the season:
"This is just one game. Of course a loss is disappointing, but it's not the end of the world...or the end of our season. The road is a tough place and our effort was great in the second half. We will get better from this loss. We need to take care of business in the next two games. We are disappointed now, but we'll be okay."

Auburn Players

DeWonna Bonner, guard

On Auburn's effort:
"They outplayed us the first half, but we came out firing in the second half. We were passive and timid in the first half. We had a lack of focus. We had great looks in the first half, but we just didn't knock them down."

On outlook for the rest of the season:
"We just have to go back and watch what went wrong in the first half, what we did well in the second half, and see what we can improve on. "
