Franklin Gets New Deal
Dec. 2
If you were sitting in your office watching the clock on Friday, we hope you also had a chance to watch Friday's press conference with Vice Chancellor David Williams and Head Coach James Franklin. If you didn't, you should carve out a few minutes to watch it now.

Williams announced Franklin has received a new contract, and that the university will make a number of facility improvements in the coming years that will benefit not only the football program, but the university as a whole. Per Vanderbilt's policy, details of the contract as well as the cost for the facility enhancements were not disclosed.

"First and foremost, we have torn up the contract for James Franklin, and rewarded him and his family with a new contract with extended years and a substantial increase in compensation," Williams said.

The largest facility project of all will be the construction of a new indoor facility that will include a 120-yard football field with a track around it. The facility will be used by many of Vanderbilt's sports. For a list of all of the enhancements, click here.

Freshman walk-on football player Josh Gregory is heading to the Big Apple to accept an award as one of five student-athletes who will be honored as a 2011 National Football Foundation High School Scholar-Athlete on Dec. 6. Gregory completed an impressive career at Davidson Academy last spring. On the football field, he was a First Team All-Division II-A selection as a defensive back for the Bears. In the classroom, Gregory graduated summa cum laude with a 4.36 grade point average. While his football resume is impressive, Gregory's accomplishments off the field are even more outstanding. Parkinson also talked with pitching coach Derek Johnson who spent some time talking at the European Baseball Coaches Association in the Czech Republic. "There weren't translators, so it took them a while to process the information so I thought that was unique," Johnson said. (European baseball) is progressing. I think Italy is doing a nice job with their baseball, Germany is on the rise and of course the Netherlands won the World Cup so there are some pockets over there that are starting to understand it. Then there are others that kind of lag behind a little bit and are still kind of their infancy in terms of what they know, how they coach and their players too. If you could compare it, it would probably be like talking to some little league coaches, some high school coaches and some college coaches (in America)." Read More
