Game Preview | Team Arrives in Toledo
Another year, another NCAA Tournament trip for the Commodores. In the current 15-year NCAA streak, Vanderbilt's women's basketball team has jetted to all parts of the country. On Thursday, the team embarked on another postseason journey to Toledo, Ohio.
The day began before sunrise with the bus departing Memorial Gymnasium at 6:30 a.m. for an 8 a.m. charter flight at Nashville International.
On the first day of spring, it did not feel anything like spring as the Commodores deplaned in Toledo, where remnants of snowfall is still very present around this northwest Ohio city of approximately a quarter million residents.
Upon arriving at the hotel, the team ate lunch and watched film before departing for practice at Toledo Christian School, an alternate practice site 15 minutes from the hotel. With school still in session, the Commodores practiced as some members of the student body watched on.
Vanderbilt will not play until 10 a.m. Saturday, when the eighth-seeded Commodores face ninth-seeded Arizona State. The winner of the game will likely face top-seeded Notre Dame, who must first defeat 16th-seeded Robert Morris.
Friday will be filled with administrative meetings and media day at Savage Arena for all four teams. Additionally, the schools will get to practice at the arena for the first time on Friday.
VUCommodores.com has been and will be with the team every step of the way throughout the NCAA Tournament, capturing photos and videos and writing stories. View the video and photos to see more about the team's first day in Toledo.
