Vanderbilt's football team was recognized at halftime of Saturday's basketball game against Mississippi State. It was the first public recognition of the team that participated in the 2011 AutoZone Liberty Bowl on Dec. 31.
Joined on the floor by the entire team, Head Coach James Franklin was presented with game balls from Vice Chancellor David Williams' for his first win against Elon and his first SEC win against Ole Miss. After accepting the game balls, Franklin spoke on the court in front of the sellout crowd at Memorial Gym.
"I would like to just start by just saying this is not the same old Vanderbilt," Franklin said. "This is not the same old Vanderbilt. This is just the beginning and we still have a long ways to go, but with your support the sky is the limit.
"I know the season didn't finish the way we liked it to but this is just the begging. We are building something that we can be very proud of."
