Quick Slant is an array of brief insights and occasionally opinionated overviews of collegiate athletics in general and the Vanderbilt Commodores in particular.
We like to remind fans that if they are not visiting this website regularly they are missing out on a lot of information they probably won't find anywhere else. That said, we are admitting an aha moment when we realized the other day how much detail we missed about the "Battle of the Barrel", our rivalry game with Louisville baseball, by not paying enough attention to our own social media outlets - Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr and Instagram. Didn't see the photo of our players holding the barrel trophy we won? You weren't checking in! What else of interest are you missing?
With good weather and a powerful team, tickets for the remaining home baseball games are getting scarce. Friday's game with Mississippi State is sold-out and big crowds are expected all weekend. We host Alabama May 16-18 for the final SEC series of the season and have home dates with Presbyterian (where Tim Corbin got his start as a head coach) May 8 and Belmont May 14. That's it for the regular season although we fully anticipate hosting an NCAA Tournament Regional in June. By the way, scarce doesn't necessarily mean sold-out so figure out when you can come enjoy this tremendous team. Information on ordering regional tickets will be forth coming.
Our congratulations and best wishes to assistant women's golf coach Holly Clark and her husband Chris on the birth of their daughter, Harper Kenley Clark, who arrived April 17.
