Quick Slant is an array of brief insights and occasionally opinionated overviews of collegiate athletics in general and the Vanderbilt Commodores in particular.
Did you catch the Brandt Snedeker Telethon (a.k.a. AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am) last weekend? Seriously, between the Golf Channel and CBS we have had the chance to watch every shot every shot the ex-Commodore phenom has hit over the last 100 or so holes. The new Tom Watson...not a bad moniker...and how terribly exciting for the current men's and women's teams who darn near idolize the guy!
Not an original thought but I wonder if this isn't Kevin Stallings' best coaching job in a long time. This inexperienced bunch has come a long way from those early games.
Our communications and marketing suite is getting a much needed facelift so we have had to pack and evacuate for the next six weeks. Digging through old files and cluttered table tops is always an adventure as you discover things you have forgotten, searched for six months ago and thought lost or somehow survived the dumpster long ago.
Someone asked the other day why our men's golf team has made such an improvement in six months, now ranked No. 17. We answered, "toughness." Case in point: last Sunday it was windy and poured rain in Nashville, yet the team continued preparing for the next tournament and was the only sign of life on the course. New coach Scott Limbaugh called the weather "perfect" and no player dared to disagree.
