With the 2017 cross country season set to kick off this upcoming weekend, preseason rankings and polls are filing in and Vanderbilt has been recognized by several organizations and publications in their preseason releases.
Southeastern Conference Preseason Coaches’ Poll
In the SEC Cross Country Preseason Poll, the Vanderbilt men and women were predicted to finish 12th and fifth, respectively, as voted on by the league’s head coaches. Both the Arkansas men and women were selected as favorites to repeat as SEC Cross Country Champions in 2017. The Razorback women have won four consecutive SEC Cross Country Championships. Points for the men’s poll were awarded on a 1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8-9-10-11 basis, while the women’s poll was awarded on a 1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8-9-10-11-12-13 basis. USTFCCCA Preseason Regional Rankings
The Vanderbilt women were also ranked No. 3 in the South Region of the USTFCCCA’s Preseason Rankings, which mirrors the team’s final ranking in the poll from a season ago. The Commodores come in the poll just behind fellow SEC foes No.1 Ole Miss and No. 2 Mississippi State. Other SEC teams included in the USTFCCCA’s South Region poll include No. 4 Alabama, No. 6 Georgia and No. 8 Florida. The national rankings will come out on Tuesday, Aug. 29.
The USTFCCCA Regional Cross Country Rankings are determined by a single member coach in each respective region. The regional representative takes into consideration a team’s returning strength along with current season results (when applicable) when determining a team’s predicted finish at the NCAA Regional Championships on Nov. 10. 2017 FloXC Countdown
FloTrack’s annual preseason top 25 cross country countdown ranked the Commodore women No. 24 in the nation and touted them as a team “ready to return to the NCAA Cross Country Championships as a team.” View FloTrack’s full profile on Vanderbilt’s 2017 team HERE.

The Commodore men and women will begin their seasons this weekend at the Belmont opener at Percy Warner Park in Nashville. The women’s race will take place first with a 9 a.m. (CT) start time and the men’s race is slated to begin at 9:30 a.m.
