Ewing, Williams named to Community Service Team

Vanderbilt senior Brionne Williams and junior John Ewing have been named to the SEC Community Service Team for men's and women's track and field and cross country. The league announced the honors on Monday afternoon.

The SEC presents a Community Service Team for each of its 21 league-sponsored sports as a means of highlighting a male and female athlete from each school who gives back to his or her community through superior service efforts.

Listed below is a look at some of the activities that the two Vanderbilt athletes are involved with outside their respected sport:

Brionne Williams (Sr., Hoover, Ala., Jumps)
Has volunteered with health and community development in South Africa ... Was the co-founder of Vanderbilt F.O.O.D. ... Her team's track and field representative to the Vanderbilt Student-Athlete Advisory Committee since 2012 ... Since 2003, has volunteered with the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure in Birmingham, Ala. ... Has spent her summers as a volunteer youth track and field coach.

John Ewing (Jr., Atlanta, Ga., Cross Country)
A representative on the Vanderbilt Student-Athlete Advisory Committee since 2012 ... A VUceptor - a Vanderbilt first-year orientation leader in 2012 ... A lodge liaison with the Mayfield Living Learning Community in 2012, interfacing with program coordinators, producing project updates and organizing volunteer activities ... Volunteered in an elementary school by reading regularly to underprivileged children.
