Men's tennis heads to Atlanta

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Vanderbilt men’s tennis team returns to the courts this weekend at the Georgia Tech Fall Invitational in Atlanta. The tournament begins on Saturday morning and will conclude on Monday afternoon. A total of 14 teams will be competing at the tournament, including Auburn, Georiga, Lipscomb and Middle Tennessee State.

Representing the Commodores this weekend in singles action will be Adam Baker, Blake Bazarnik, Alex DiValerio, Charlie Jones, Andy Pulido, Alex Zotov and Bryant Salcedo, while Baker and Salcedo will team up in the doubles field along with Zotov and Bazarnik.

The tournament features two singles flights and two doubles flights, with a round of consolation matches in each flight. In singles Flight A, Salcedo will face Georgia State’s Vincent Verpeaux and Jones will play Clemson’s Dominique Maden. Zotov, Baker and DiValerio have byes and will play their first matches later in the morning on Saturday. Bazarnik will take on MTSU’s Matt Langley in the first round of singles Flight B, and Pulido will face Rob Whitsitt of North Alabama.

In doubles play, Baker and Salcedo will meet Tennessee’s Taylor Patrick and Bryan Swartz in the first round of Flight A on Saturday afternoon, while Bazarnik and Zotovo face Armstrong Atlantic’s Rafael Array and Mikk Irdoja. In Flight B, DiValerio and Jones have a bye into the quarterfinal match.
