Nashville, Tenn. -

Vanderbilt’s men’s tennis team kicks off their fall tournament schedule this weekend with half of the team traveling to California for the Napa Valley Land Rover Classic, and half traveling to Athens, Georgia for the Southern Intercollegiate Championships.

On their way to Napa with head coach Ian Duvenhage are freshman Gonzales Austin, sophomore Blake Bazarnik, and seniors Alex DiValerio and Charlie Jones. The Classic includes six elite programs—UCal Berkeley, UCLA, Notre Dame, Tennessee, Tulsa, and Vanderbilt—and the top eight USTA-sponsored juniors in the nation.

The five other freshmen--Michael Retta, Jeff Offerdahl, Suresh Eswaran, Joe Dorn, and Anton Kovrigin--will travel with assistant coach Jamie Hunt to the Southern Intercollegiates to compete against athletes from 26 schools, including seven other SEC schools. For the young players, who make up part of the top recruiting class, the experience will be their first foray into collegiate tennis. The competition is the oldest fall college tennis tournament in America, now entering its 44th year.
